When fire comes, we bring the water

When fighting comes, we bind the wounds

When storms tear down, we dig and shovel

Where there is fear, or pain, we just love double

Dear Rosies,

Our hearts are with everyone in the path of Hurricane Helene.

The grief that follows a storm is real—for both the people affected and the places forever changed. Many of you can empathize. We personally know the immense energy it takes to heal and repair, having experienced earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on our farm, as well as the wildfires in our home state of California (where more than 1 million acres have burned in wildfires so far this year!). But in the face of devastation, we also witness how every single person becomes a helper. The best in people emerges: communities come together, strangers arrive with drinking water and warm soup, and truckloads of support pour in from around the world. We are always reminded of what truly matters and what endures.

I feel how Earth is just howling it its attempt to keep stasis in temperature: accelerated winds and melts and dessication. And we aren’t separate from the planet. Our burnout IS the planet’s burnout.

Let’s embody the frequency of calm together: take long, deep, self-loving breaths, actively seek the magic in each person we meet, and do what we can in these moments of crisis. Don’t wait for an invitation to be a healer, maker, helper, or creator. We give when we are resourced to give, and we graciously receive the gifts of others when the time comes.

Disaster recover for Helene in North Carolina and Florida are being supported by the American Red Cross, if you’re so called.

All love,

Christine
