Dear Rose People

Happy Fall Equinox!

The equinox invites us to restore balance in our lives and align with planetary rhythms. It’s a great time to do a personal check-in inventory. Personally, I cherish these natural annual markers, and just finished a good whole house clean,  audited my ongoing projects and checked in with what wants to emerge now. This evening, my friends and I plan to create a little autumn-themed altar, contemplate the shifting seasons and explore what might need rebalancing in our lives.  If you’re interested in this, our rituals for modern living book offers more monthly and seasonal ceremonies.

One pointer to what is out of balance is lack of enjoyment. Pleasure can be a great guide to making the right choice- from careers to relationships to what we do with our free time. When we ask ourselves what brings us joy, makes us feel alive, and resonates with our innermost desires, we make better decisions.

Plus, pleasure has so much energy. It’s a raw, unfiltered, erotic force that can propel our life.

Yet, we know that society has a so-so relationship with pleasure. Sometimes its labeled as selfish or indulgent- which in turn, creates repressive distortions, where desire goes underground, becoming secretive, taboo, or even dark. If you want to know more about where this prohibition against pleasure comes from and how to change that story for yourself, read more on the site.

In the meantime, I’d love to see pictures of YOUR autumn home altar and what you’re calling this season. Need inspiration? In North America, the symbols for this seasonal time are pinecones, seeds, sunflowers, thistle, marigolds, yarrow, rosemary, sage, mugwort, rosehips, pomegranate, pumpkin and squash, amber, citrine, jasper, cat’s eye, aventurine. The colors resemble a rich fall woodland: oranges, reds, golds, coppers, and greens.

Wishing you pleasure, balance, renewal, and life in alignment with the cycles of Earth.
